Start the visit

Field app (Android)A stand with no visit open.
  1. 1 Planned for this stand
  2. 2 Start visit
  3. 3 Sync chip: what is still on the phone
Field app (Android)What will you record today?
  1. 4 Recommended for this stand
  2. 5 Other topics
  3. 6 Start visit
  1. Check what is planned for the stand (from the plan register on the web).
  2. Tap Start visit.
  3. The sync chip shows what is still only on this phone.
  4. Keep the recommended topics — the stand’s chosen methods and objectives — ticked. Each tile says what it records and informs.
  5. Add other topics if you will record them today (health, deadwood…).
  6. Tap Start visit · 3 topics. Where a method has levels (e.g. WHIA Lite), you choose the level here.

Go plot by plot

Field app (Android)A visit in progress.
  1. 7 Progress through the points
  2. 8 Go to the next point
  3. 9 Stand-wide records · Live result
  4. 10 Each point: Navigate · Record
  5. 13 Finish visit
  1. Progress — 1 of 4 done.
  2. Tap Go to P02 · 240 m N for the next point: it opens navigation (Find your plots).
  3. Stand-wide holds records for the whole stand (an IBP walk, a WHIA area summary); Live result shows the stand so far.
  4. Each point has Navigate and Record (or Add / edit), with its relocation note and how many records it has.
Field app (Android)Recording a tree at P03.
  1. 11 Tabs: the plot itself, then each tree
  2. 12 Species quick-picks (or type / speak)
  3. 14 Live result for this plot
  4. 15 Save & next
  1. Fill the plot tab, then the item tab. For stand data: Plot visit (marker found, Big BAF count…), then Tree for each tree. Required fields say so; units and diameter or girth are switches, so a girth is never mistaken for a diameter.
  2. Tap a species chip, type a code, or use Speak. Guide opens the method’s own instructions.
  3. When every point is done, Finish visit becomes the main button on the stand screen.
  4. Watch the live result strip — the result at this place, computed on the phone by the same engine as the server.
  5. Tap Save & next for the next tree (Save & clear keeps you on the form empty).
Field app (Android)Trees saved here: synced or waiting, edit or delete.

The live result

Field app (Android)Live result for one plot.
  1. 1 The verdict for this place
  2. 2 Key numbers
  3. 3 Marking quota per size band
  4. 4 The tool proposes; you choose the trees
  1. The verdict against the stand’s target.
  2. Key numbers — basal area, stems, quadratic mean diameter, diversity…
  3. The marking quota per size band, for stand data with BDq.
  4. The tool proposes the quota; you choose which trees. Warnings (e.g. no sample heights for volume) are listed separately.

Finish

Tap Finish visit, then sync when you have signal. On the web, the visit appears in Results; anything assisted (voice, camera, instrument) or imported waits under Review incoming.

Tips
  • Record empty plots too — an empty plot is data (it lowers the per-hectare average). The forms say so.
  • Each method’s form, with phone screenshots, is in its Measurements guide.
What it doesn’t do (yet)
  • The next point follows the layout’s order, not the shortest walk from where you stand.
  • The field app has no task list; due work shows from the plan register.
