On this page
Silva Perpetua has two parts that share one account: the web app, where you set up woodlands, read results and make reports, and the field app on an Android phone, where you measure — offline. Everything you set up at the desk reaches the phone the next time it syncs.
- The web address of your organisation’s app (your administrator or provider gives it to you). Open it in a current browser on a computer or tablet.
- If your organisation already uses the app, do not register a new one — ask your admin for an invite (see Users, roles and invites).
Create your organisation
An organisation is your practice: its foresters, its clients and their woodlands. The person who registers it becomes its organisation admin.
- Open the app and choose Register an organisation. The sign-in page has two tabs.
- Enter the organisation’s name and your name. The organisation name appears on reports.
- Enter your email and a password. Use a password manager; the app asks for at least the minimum length shown if it is too short.
- Choose Create organisation. You are signed in straight away.
- 1 Register an organisation (first time only)
- 2 Sign in tab
- 3 Email and password
- 4 Sign in
- 2 Organisation and your name
- 3 Your email and a password
- 4 Create organisation
Production sites sign in through Google Identity Platform. The page then shows Sign in and Create an account tabs, Forgot password? and — when your provider has turned it on — Sign in with Google. After you create an account, Google emails you a link to verify your address. If you are signed in but not yet part of an organisation, the app says No access yet and offers to register one; invited foresters and owners should wait for their invite instead.
- 1 Create an account (new to the app)
- 2 Email and password sign-in
- 3 Forgot password? — Google emails a reset link
- 4 Sign in with Google
The first three steps
A new organisation lands on Your book of woodlands with a Get started checklist. Each step ticks off as you do it:
- Add a client — the woodland owner you work for. They own their data.
- Add a property — the woodland, with its boundary drawn on the map or imported from a GIS file.
- Add a compartment and a stand, then choose methods — a stand is the unit you measure and manage.
- 1 Step 1: add a client
- 2 You are the organisation admin
- 3 The three set-up steps tick off as you go
Each step is explained, with screenshots, in Set up clients, properties, compartments and stands and Choose methods and set targets. Then lay out plots with Plan a field visit.
Sign in on the phone
The field app runs on Android. On first start it asks for your email and password (or Sign in with Google) and the server address — the same web address your organisation uses, set once. Sign in where you have signal: the first sync downloads your clients’ woodlands. The full walk-through is Get ready for the field.
- 1 Email and password
- 2 Or Sign in with Google
- 3 Server address — from your organisation, set once
- 4 Nothing leaves the phone without a sync
Finding help
- Help in the app’s top bar opens these guides in a new tab; owners go straight to the owners’ guide.
- Learn how links under each stand page and on key screens open the guide for that page.
- The ⓘ next to a term (BDq, IBP, H:D…) explains it in place; all terms are in the Glossary.
- Press / on any guide page to search.
- There is no self-service plan or payment page: your provider sets up the site.
- There is no iPhone app. The field app is Android only; the web app works in any current browser, including on phones, for reading and setup.
- Email notifications and digests are planned (they need an email provider); today the app does not email you about due work.
