Continuous cover forestry · monitoring · certification evidence

See whether your forest is on track. And prove it.

For foresters and consultants managing close-to-nature woodland in Ireland, the UK and Europe. Capture a field visit offline on Android, track every stand against its target over the years, and produce the certification monitoring evidence, owner reports and payment records — across your whole book of clients.

On track, or drifting?

Every target metric — basal area, AFI band, dominant diameter, deadwood, regeneration, H:D — trended across the stand's own visits, with an estimated year to target. Drifting stands surface in your portfolio.

Capture offline in the field — by form, voice note or camera DBH, each confirmed by you. Bring old spreadsheets, PDFs or photos of field sheets in with Import anything.

Prove

Evidence an auditor can follow

A certification monitoring pack mapped to FSC Principle 8 and UKWAS, plus owner reports, five-year reviews and biodiversity & browsing evidence — HTML or PDF, one property or a batch.

The loop

Four steps, then it compounds.

The target, the method and the monitoring, joined over time, with every number traceable to a dated, confirmed record.

01

Set up

Map the property and stands, choose methods (the one designed for the stand's region is recommended) and set each stand's target.

02

Capture

Walk to fixed plots and record on Android, fully offline, with photos, voice notes and assisted measurements. Sync when you have signal.

03

Analyse over time

Each visit is scored with the method version in force on its date, and trended against the stand's target.

04

Prove it

Certification pack, owner report, five-year review and grant evidence, built from the same results the screens show.

What's inside

Everything a CCF monitoring year needs.

Each area has a step-by-step guide with screenshots.

Methods & regions

The right method for where the wood is.

The app works out the stand's country from its boundary and recommends the method designed for it. For stand structure that is each country's own tradition: BDq in Ireland and the UK, AFI in France, Belgium and Luxembourg, target diameter in Germany and Austria, the control method in Switzerland. You can still choose any other, with a caution. Every result names its method and version.

Sources, and what is provisional
  1. Each country's own tradition. BDq: de Liocourt (1898) and the Forest Research BDq calculator, UK and Irish practice, and the general method in the rest of Europe where no national tradition is built in. AFI (Association Futaie Irrégulière): France, with network stands in Wallonia and Luxembourg (Bruciamacchie, Tomasini & Baar 2008). Zielstärkennutzung: Germany and Austria (Reininger 1987). Gurnaud and Biolley's méthode du contrôle: Switzerland (Biolley 1920). Targets, bands and normal stock are set per stand. Volume and carbon are provisional until the IE/UK tariff tables.
  2. Black, Byrne, Reeves & Moran (2023) The CCF biodiversity protocol, after Larrieu & Gonin (2009). Indicator plants: Perrin & Daly (2010), Irish Wildlife Manuals 46. Provisional until the authors confirm the category bands.
  3. The Irish CCF protocol scored with the Northern Ireland ancient-woodland list (Perrin & Daly 2010, Table 17). An adaptation, not a published NI protocol.
  4. Gonin, Larrieu et al. (2025) IBP EUR.MED v3.2: the authors' generic European definition, which they say may need adapting per country and is a test version in boreal or semi-arid climates. Recommended where no national version exists.
  5. CNPF and partners: IBP FR v3.2 (2026), IBP Benelux v3.2 (INBO), IBP ES v3.2 (2026), IBP-CAT v3.0 (CPF & CTFC 2022), IBP It v3.0 (2023). Checked against the official documents.
  6. Armstrong, Black, Holl & Thompson, WHIA User Guide v5 (2023): provisional because the "best describes" judgement is proposed for the surveyor to confirm. Pepper (1998) FC Practice Note 1, nearest-neighbour method.
  7. ONCFS ICE fiche 14 (2015, France); BAFU (2010, Switzerland); StMELF Forstliches Gutachten 2024 (Bavaria); BFW Wildeinflussmonitoring (Austria), Äbin (Sweden), Instrukcja Ochrony Lasu §105 (Poland) and ÚHÚL (2021, Czechia), provisional until checked against their full field instructions. Elsewhere, the app's shared regeneration-browse plots.
  8. Forest Service stocking-assessment practice (adequacy threshold and height classes are defaults you set); Forestry Commission Information Note 45 (2002); AFI regeneration protocol, with the AFI stand method.
  9. Establishment survey for new or renewed planting under about 15 years: survival, stocking, beating-up, height growth, weeds, browsing and guards, read against a profile chosen per stand. Profiles come from DAFM's Forestry Standards Manual (2023) and Afforestation Scheme (2024), Scottish Forestry's Stocking Density Survey Protocol V7 and FGS options, Forestry Commission EWCO and felling-licence guidance, and the Welsh Woodland Creation Grant. CCF profiles draw on Pro Silva Ireland (2024), Kerr et al. (2020) and FC Information Notes 40 and 45. Provisional: some thresholds are app defaults, and FT10's "±20% per species" awaits DAFM's reading.
  10. CCF biodiversity protocol (2023) §2.2.5; Van Wagner (1968) line-intersect method; decay classes after Tobin et al. (2007).
  11. Systematic grid or the Local Pivotal Method (Grafström, Lundström & Schelin 2012), following each chosen method's own plot rules (AFI's 10 plots, the IBP walk, 10 WHIA stops). It proposes; nothing is saved until you accept.
  12. General forest-condition practice: incidence and severity by agent. Notifiable-agent lists from DAFM (IE) and the Forestry Commission & APHA (UK) change, so confirm them.
  13. Forest Research H:D guidance for conifer stability (~80 caution, ~100 high); the exposure adjustments are defaults you set.
  14. Residual damage, stump audit and rut checks after harvesting. Damage bands, wound and rut classes and the stump-to-DBH factor are working defaults you set to your contract terms.

Every method, step by step: the measurement guides.

Built for certification monitoring

FSC Principle 8, UKWAS and PEFC: the monitoring, recorded the way an audit reads it.

FSC Principle 8 asks you to monitor progress toward objectives, the impacts of management and the condition of the woodland, and to feed the results back into the plan. UKWAS adds that monitoring be consistent and replicable over time. That is what the app records. It supports your evidence; your certification body decides conformity.

Why not conventional forestry software

Built for the paradigm the others can't represent.

Clearfell software assumes
Silva Perpetua works the way CCF works
One age, one rotation, one felling date
All-aged, managed to a target structure, with no felling date
Yield tables predict growth from age
Growth measured from your own re-inventories
Uniformity is the goal
Structural diversity is the goal, and the metric
A few big fellings
Frequent, light interventions, each with before and after
